was watching this program last night on KBS world (a starhub digi cable set top bonus!). it was about this boy who had tourette's syndrome. honestly, i didn't think that anyone could get tourette's - basically cos the first time i encountered this was in deuce bigalow. could you blame me?! frivolous show. for all i know they could have made up the condition just to fit the script. yes yes, very bimbo of me. bleah.
anyways, it shows how he had just got admitted to uni, how they had to seek out the dean in order to explain his condition and how he tapes his mouth up with clear masking tape and on top of that, covers it with a scarf. he also goes up to every one of his lecturers to make sure they are aware of his condition (something that takes heaps of balls). and you can tell it's been so hard on him and his parents.
but it could have been worse, he could have just slob at home and be negative about his condition and just waste away. but i guess u gotta give him credit for completing his high school and getting accepted into a uni. it's gotta be so hard to make frens, or even for his peers to just accept his condition. it's gotta be even tougher waking up everyday, knowing what you're going to face and still ploughing on. just a mere sentence from you has the propensity of turning into something vulgar and potentially offend pple. it's not like something you can control. it just happens. ignorant people would be offend. and you can't just wear a sign that says you have a condition. (well you could, but.. )
and when he's not displaying signs of his condition, he is actually a pretty nice and funny dude. there was a scene in which his mom was sick, and he prepared some food for her, danced around the house to make her laugh.
just seeing him carrying on with his life, being so brave about it (not to say he doesn't get down and frustrated) really makes me appreciate myself more. you know, no condition or shit like that to handle. makes me think why do i still compare myself to others and thinking that i'm not good enough.
